How we got here.

IJA Commodities Ventures was registered in Accra in June 2020 with one objective: build a Ghana-anchored physical trading house that could move commodity into the world without compromising on quality, traceability or documentation.

The first years were spent on the unglamorous work — building direct relationships with cooperatives, mills, refiners and licensed producers; getting the banking lines that turn a buyer's interest into a shipped cargo; and writing the operational playbooks that mean every desk runs the same way. We chose to be a counterparty rather than a broker because brokerage is fragile and counterparty discipline compounds.

Today we operate four primary trading desks and four further product lines, with active corridors across Africa, Europe, the Middle East and Asia. The organisation is deliberately lean — fast decisions, deep counterparty relationships, every desk accountable for its own P&L and its own quality record.

How we are organised.

IJA Commodities Ventures is the trading parent. Operating teams sit beneath it by commodity vertical, with shared services for finance, compliance, documentation and logistics. Every desk reports against documented quality, counterparty and risk thresholds. Trading limits, single-counterparty exposure and gross book are set monthly and reviewed weekly.

Operating principles.

Be a counterparty.

We take principal risk and we manage it. We don't broker someone else's trade and we don't paper over someone else's exposure.

Document everything.

If a step in the trade isn't on paper, with a date, an issuer and a counterparty, it didn't happen. Operational discipline = documentary discipline.

Hedge what we can.

Price risk on liquid contracts is hedged. Position size is sized to risk capacity. We do not run directional bets dressed up as physical trades.

Invest in origin.

Producer relationships, cooperative training, quality programmes — these are operational investments, not CSR. Better origin makes better trade.
